I realize I’ve done quite a few of these Minecraft Buzzes.. but I just love blowing up these low-rez sprites into massive statues in game.

Buzz 186 – Cube Buzz
<img src=”http://nlcast.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/block-buzz-angle-580×580.jpg”>I bought a perfectly square block of wood the other day at Hobby Lobby. I knew I wanted to make a Buzz out of it… but there were so many options. My first thought was to spin-off a child’s block. Maybe hand carve in the letter “B” on one end, then find symbols from the Toy Story movies to fill in the other sides… but that’s not Buzz. I also could have painted each side as a different view of his head or body. Top being the top of his head, bottom being the bottom of his feet… and I may still do that in a future post. But today I ended up kind of rapping him around the block. It’s hard to explain so I shot each side so you can see them all below.
This Buzz says, “This is the last time I play around with the trash compacter.”

Buzz 185 – Baby Face Buzz
So imagine a world where Woody and his toy mutant friends didn’t save Buzz from Sid’s rocket. Buzz blows up. Pieces of him fall to the ground. One lazy day three weeks later, Sid cobbles together a new mutant using Baby Face (Spider Baby) and Buzz’s still-smiling head. Here is what that might look like. You know Buzz… he’d make the best of it somehow.

Buzz 184 – Notebook Paper Buzz
I knocked out this sketch in my journal during a meeting. I figured I’d have him salute rather than the hands on the hips pose.

A simple Photoshop modification of a typical Men’s Room sign. I’m going to print this out and put it over every men’s room at work starting Monday.

Buzz 182 – Polymer Clay Buzz

Today I present the classic Mario Bros 1 Up mushroom done up as Buzz Lightyear. If Mario took one of these he’d have unlimited lives… to infinity and beyond of course.

Buzz 180 – Alternate Toy Story Movie Poster
If you look at Toy Story from a slightly different angle… it’s a story about a bunch of horrible things that happen to a very kind and helpful Space Ranger. He’s thrown out a window, taken to a toy terrorist’s house, his arm pops off, then he’s nearly blown to bits. I hope this retro-style alternative movie poster does him justice.

A while back my daughter, Jenna, created a Buzz Lightyear for me. Today I decided to flesh out her rendering as a painting. I hope she approves.
