This is my first update from Ireland. I’m online through a very kind man’s shared wifi through his Android phone. Today’s Buzz reflects how I felt after 16 hours of flying.

Today’s Buzz started as a carved pumpkin from Disney World. I redrew it, modified it, printed it out, traced it onto card stock and then cut it out. I grabbed a can of spray paint and started looking around for something to tag. My wife noticed the look in my eyes and started following me around the house. I asked if I could tag the washing machine. She said no. She did let me tag the garage wall, which you see above. Turned out pretty cool… so I grabbed my laptop (dubbed the “Crappy Lappy”) and tagged it as well.
Awesome.
Here’s the stencil I used.

Just FYI the next 10 Buzz updates will be from foreign shores. I’m headed out to Ireland to do a Christian kid’s camp. I’ve been told that I will have internet access so the updates should continue as normal. But even if they don’t you can trust that I will still be creating daily Buzzes (from the Emerald Isle) and will be posting them upon my return. Peace!
Weird how much my boy changes with just one eye.

Yesterday was Father’s day. I got some great Buzz Lightyear gifts from my family. A round Buzz Lightyear throw pillow from Target and a POP! Buzz Lightyear from the Disney Store! I loved the little figure so much I did a quick sketch for today’s Buzz.
My three year old son (I call him Dunder) and I did this Buzz together. I held up the craft foam and he cut straight lines until we got the shape we wanted. I helped him with color selection and placement. He added the eyes, nose and smile. It was a lot of fun, and as an added bonus, his big sister was very impressed!
The best part was when Dunder noticed I was getting nervous holding the little bits of foam while he cut them. He said, “I not cut you Daddy.” Then after a successful cut with no blood he’d exclaim, “I no cut you Daddy!” Wait, you mean you didn’t believe what you were telling me? I put my faith in you three year old proclamation!

<img src=”http://nlcast.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/block-buzz-angle-580×580.jpg”>I bought a perfectly square block of wood the other day at Hobby Lobby. I knew I wanted to make a Buzz out of it… but there were so many options. My first thought was to spin-off a child’s block. Maybe hand carve in the letter “B” on one end, then find symbols from the Toy Story movies to fill in the other sides… but that’s not Buzz. I also could have painted each side as a different view of his head or body. Top being the top of his head, bottom being the bottom of his feet… and I may still do that in a future post. But today I ended up kind of rapping him around the block. It’s hard to explain so I shot each side so you can see them all below.

So imagine a world where Woody and his toy mutant friends didn’t save Buzz from Sid’s rocket. Buzz blows up. Pieces of him fall to the ground. One lazy day three weeks later, Sid cobbles together a new mutant using Baby Face (Spider Baby) and Buzz’s still-smiling head. Here is what that might look like. You know Buzz… he’d make the best of it somehow.
This Buzz says, “To Infinity and Sid’s Lawn!”
