Buzz 039 – Minecraft Buzz

Today I’ve reused the pattern I made for Perler Bead Buzz but this time I’ve created him in the game, Minecraft. Minecraft is a game about placing blocks to build anything you can imagine.

Buzz is 47 blocks tall. That’s about 155 virtual feet tall. This joker is huge.

This Buzz says, “One minute you’re defending the whole galaxy, and, suddenly… your a giant.”

Buzz 036 – Construction Paper Buzz

This Buzz was created with marbleized construction paper… kind of on accident. I meant to buy the regular kind… but somehow came home with this pearly stuff. Color selection was limited so I cheated a bit. The black parts are red paper with black marker… and the eyes and smile (white) are card stock.

The entire buzz was created with nothing but the paper, rubber cement and a pair of scissors. No drawing, sketching, planning of any kind. I watched Swamp Thing while I put him together (extra trivia).

This Buzz says, “I feel tie-died and groovy, man.”

Buzz 034 – Skittles Buzz

We’re potty training our 2 year old son. He gets a Skittle every time he pees in the potty so we’ve got this huge bag of Skittles laying around. It occurred to me that there were probably enough different colors in there to fashion some kind of Buzz image. I was right. If you’re having troubles making him out (he’s kind of low-rez) maybe the picture below will help.

This Buzz says, “Buzz Lightyear: Taste the mayo.”

Buzz 033 – Steampunk Buzz

This piece was a blast to do. This is Buzz as only a Steampunker would imagine him to be. Note the airtight barrel, wrist-mounted ray gun, dual-exhaust steam-powered propulsion system, classic collapsible wings and four wheels for high-speed landings.

This Buzz says, “I am Sir Buford Lightfoot, a ranger of the spaces beyond or own. I plan to keep the universe safe from any threats of invasion.”

Buzz 032 – Perler Bead Buzz

I got interested in creating things with Perler Beads once I saw that folks were using them to recreate 8-bit sprites from old video games. Perler beads are little plastic beads that you place on a spiked mat. When you get them arranged the way you want you fuse them together by melting them a bit with an iron. They end up looking a lot like pixels.

I created the pattern in Photoshop using a 29×58 pixel canvas. Then using two 29×29 pin tiles, I put him together… twice. I spilled him all over my lap on my first attempt at making it to the iron. I’ve included the pattern below if anyone out there wants to make their own.

This Buzz says, “I put the craft in spacecraft.”

Buzz 031 – Puppet Buzz

I created this puppet with tongue depressors, card stock and a rubber band. I put him together the same way I did my first puppet. You can’t really tell it’s a working puppet from a photograph, so I’ve embedded a short video below so you can see him in action.

This Buzz says, “I’m Buzz Lightyear, SPACE PUPPET. Universe Protection Unit.”
