Buzz Lightyear Keychains

Keychains! Woo hoo! I remember when collecting a huge wad of keychains was the thing, for girls. There would always be at least one miniature stuffed animal and a koosh keychain in there somewhere.

I don’t consider myself a keychain collector… but I’ve acquired a few over the years.

Toy Story 2 Buzz Lightyear Action Figure Keychain

We’ll get the huge packaged one out of the way first. This keychain is made of plastic, the clasp is crap and would fall off on the first day of use. Buzz has a good face and the suit is reproduced well. If you press the front left button panel it makes a little led “laser” light up on his wrist with a sound effect. I especially appreciate that the center Space Ranger logo is there. On this scale of a model they usually skip it entirely. He’s even got the right coloring on the left and right upper arms.

I just now realized that two of these keychains are the same. One was just out of the package. So we’ve got some views that would be otherwise unobtainable.

So apparently I bought two of these things and took one out of the package.

The wings pop out when you press the button on the back. The package says they can be pushed back in for “maximum portability”. Cause a keychain the size of your hand is pretty portable. He’s pretty clean even out of the package. That’s because for a dude, the keychain has to fit inside the front pocket of our pants. Even if you wear your keys on a beltloop you don’t want something like this slapping your thigh. This is more of a backpack thing if you ask me.

Floating Ball Buzz Lightyear Keychain

I’m sure there’s an official name for these things… but I don’t know it. You’ve seen these. Most of the time it’s an eyeball floating inside a slightly larger sphere with water inside. The eye always looks at you (or up) no matter which way you roll it. Well, this is one of those. Which made it a little tough to photograph. If you try to spin it to make his face upright he just keeps on going.

I like the linework on this piece. Cartoony but well represents the character. Again I find myself saying that this is impractical for a fella to use for it’s intended purpose. I could see myself cracking that outer sphere the first day and having whatever fluid is inside flow down the inside of my jeans. That’s a look you wanna go for right there. But even with all that, this is a cool keychain with a cool effect. I’m glad I have it.

Crappy Buzz Lightyear Sliding Puzzle Keychain

I purposefully flipped the tag on this so no one would know what I paid for it. I’m sure it was much more than I would pay for something like this now. This kind of cheapy crap is the kind if thing I leave in the store these days. There’s not much to say about this one. It’s from the Disney Store. It’s shrink wrapped and is a sliding puzzle game. After giving it so much crap I now have to say that out of the keychains I’ve shown so far, this is the most likely to fit in a pocket. Still to big for my taste.

Super Cool Metal Buzz Lightyear Clock Keychain

I’ve always loved this thing. I actually used this one quite a bit. The front doesn’t show it but the back has quite a few little scratches. I didn’t use this as a keychain, I hooked it to a belt loop. It did great until one of the rings stretched out and I almost lost it. I put the ring back and put it in storage with the other keychains.

I will point out that the Buzz figure is the same as the one on the sliding puzzle.

Space Ranger Spin Buzz Lightyear Keychain

I saved the best for last. this is a completely mint Walt Disney World Park exclusive. Purchased it in the Magic Kingdom, Tomorrow Land outside of the Space Ranger Spin attraction. There’s a little kiosk outside the ride that always has some pretty unique stuff. I check it out every time we go.

This keychain is my favorite because it’s heavy, solid metal and the art is perfect. It’s sturdy with the black chord running down and back through two holes running the length of the figure. What you can’t see in this picture is the thickness of the character. It’s at least a quarter inch. Feels good in the hand. Then there’s the bonus Space Ranger Spin logo thrown in for good measure. Were I to use this that would have to go.

I don’t use keychains these days. Unless you count the fob that unlocks the doors to my car. But if I did I would want to, but not, use Space Ranger Spin Buzz.

What does your keychain look like? Snap a picture and post it in the comments, on twitter or facebook. Hashtag #mykeychain. Peace!
